This interactive Homeschool Hours & Attendance Tracker Google Sheet makes it easy to track attendance, instructional hours, subjects covered, curriculum used, evaluation and assessment results, favorite books, and meaningful memories — all in one place.

This is the Hours & Attendance Version, which allows you to record instructional hours as well as completed homeschool days. If you don’t need to track hours, I also offer an Attendance Version with the same core planning and record-keeping features, but with a simple checkbox method for recording attendance.

Why I Made This Tracker

As a Colorado mom, I originally designed this tracker with our state’s requirements in mind (172 days, 4 hours/day, and required subjects). However, I quickly found that I wanted more than a way to simply meet record-keeping requirements. I wanted one place to plan our homeschool year, track what we were learning, keep meaningful records, and preserve some of the memories along the way.

We personally keep one copy per child, and it has become our go-to system for staying organized without overcomplicating our homeschool days.

Over time, I realized that different homeschool families have different record-keeping needs. Some families want to track instructional hours in addition to attendance, while others simply want an easy way to document their homeschool days. That’s why I created both an Attendance Version and this Hours & Attendance Version. The two versions differ slightly in how attendance is tracked (see below), but both share the same flexible approach to planning, organizing subjects and curriculum, documenting learning, and preserving memories.

When creating these Google Sheets, I had four main goals:

• Simple – I wanted a minimalist design that captures the essentials without unnecessary clutter. This tracker allows for quick logging and gives a clear view of your year at a glance.
• Flexible – One wonderful advantage of homeschooling is the freedom to adjust plans for vacations, life events, or spontaneous adventures. The tracker automatically updates as you make changes, helping you stay on track without rigid planning.
• Reusable – This Google Sheet is designed to be reused year after year. Simply update the year in one location, and all dates and calendars throughout the tracker automatically adjust.
• Digital – Because it’s built in Google Sheets, you can access it from anywhere and easily duplicate it for multiple children or school years.

• Year Tab – Annual homeschool calendar. Plan and adjust your school days as needed. The tracker automatically calculates your planned school days throughout the year.

• Tracker Tab – Log daily hours, subjects covered, curriculum, projects, field trips, activities, and notes.

• Summary Tab – View automatically updating data that summarizes completed days, hours, average daily time, and subjects covered. There is also space to record curriculum used, assessment and evaluation results, favorite books, and favorite memories from the year.

• Print Tab – Automatically pulls data from the rest of the tracker to create a clean, print-friendly homeschool record for your files.

Not every homeschool family starts their year in August, so I created four different calendar layouts to choose from:

• January–December
• July–June
• August–July
• September–August

High school record keeping often shifts toward credits and transcripts, and some families may choose to supplement this tracker with additional tools during those years.
