25, 50 & 100 Book Reading Trackers

Looking for a fun way to encourage reading and make progress toward a reading goal?

These printable book trackers give kids (and families!) a visual way to celebrate every book they read. Color a book as you go or write in the titles you’ve read and watch the bookshelf fill up. An editable Google Slides version is included, too, so you can customize your tracker before printing.

Because every reader is a little different, there are lots of ways to make your tracker work for you! Use one tracker for each child, or make it a family reading challenge.

Want to see all the options before choosing your favorite? I put together a quick walkthrough showing the different bookshelf styles, reading goals, and ways you can use the trackers.

What counts as a book?

You decide!

Your reading challenge can be whatever works for your family. Count books, read-alouds, independently read books, audiobooks, chapters, articles, magazines, or anything else that feels meaningful to you.

There’s no right or wrong way to use your tracker. The goal is simply to make reading visible and celebrate the progress you’re making.

How We’ve Used Our Reading Tracker

We’ve been using our bookshelf as a family 100-book challenge, and it’s been such a fun way to encourage everyone to read more—at every level.

Our third grader loves reading and burns through every library book that comes home, but the tracker has encouraged her to keep going and tackle more chapter books.

Our kindergartener is motivated by seeing those little books fill the shelf and has been excited to read more beginner-reader and CVC books.

And our toddler gets in on the challenge, too! We’ve been reading more books aloud together, so even our youngest gets to help fill our family bookshelf.

I love that everyone can participate in the same reading challenge, even though we’re all reading very different things.

Make It Fun!

What will you do when your bookshelf is full?

Make reaching your reading goal something worth celebrating! When our family fills our 100-book shelf, we’re having an ice cream sundae party.

You could also celebrate with:

  • a special family outing or field trip
  • a trip to the library or bookstore
  • a movie or game night
  • a favorite meal or dessert
  • a new puzzle, game, or book
  • a small “mystery gift” revealed when the shelf is complete
  • letting your child choose a special family activity
  • or anything else you can dream up!
